In this 4-part training course, attendees will learn the key differences between reciprocating and centrifugal compressors and their associated equipment, how to size and select them, and when each is the ideal technology to install. Pros and cons, including financial implications of each technology, will be viewed through the lens of real-world case studies.

This course is for those who are looking to understand what is happening inside their reciprocating compressor cylinders and frames. We will examine the thermodynamic cycle using the Pressure-Volume (PV) diagram. We will also discuss how capacity control devices affect this PV diagram. Finally, this course will cover how compressor performance and safety criteria are calculated and how they are used to protect the compressor. By the end of this course, attendees will be able to identify the four events represented by the PV diagram and how changes in operating conditions will affect the compressor.

The amount of methane from a lean burn engine can be significant.
The EPA has released regulations focused on the transportation of natural gas and any releases of methane, from blowing down compressors, venting pilot gas, compressor seal leaks, and yes, unburned methane emitted in lean burn engine exhaust.
This presentation provides a brief overview of regulations, methods and technology used to improve combustion, reduce methane emissions, and other ways to mitigate the problem.

Compressor lubricant is expensive. So is gas stream contamination. Lube oil carryover is a major component of gas stream contamination. It leads to reduced valve life, fouled filters, contaminated metering stations, pipeline restrictions, increased pigging expenses, and it can damage equipment like turbine fuel gas valves. Learn how one pipeline operator killed two birds with one stone by implementing an advanced lubrication system that reduced their compressor cylinder lubricant requirements by approximately 90%. This course provides detailed analysis following 1,112,415 successful run hours 3.5 years post-implementation of TriCip Lubrication Systems on 135 natural gas compressors covering 11,000 miles of pipeline.

In this paper, we first explain how to quantify the emissions of reciprocating compressors, distinguishing between fugitive, energy-related, and vented emissions. We present three real-world case studies and analyze the lessons learned, quantifying the possible improvements already achievable with today’s technology. Then, we present a practical approach to emission reduction, which can be used as a guideline to reach zero emissions and maintain them over time.

In the next decade, larger and more efficient CO2 machinery will be needed to meet evolving global market needs. With renewable power's build-out, ironically, the United States continues to utilize more natural gas for power generation, for both baseload and for peaking power, due to its reliability and fast response time of gas turbine generators. The rapid expansion of AI data centers has also translated into more reliance on dedicated natural gas-fired power and natural gas pipelines. Hence, eventually, CO2 capture for gas-fired power will be needed to decarbonize the power generation sector. Other key CO2 capture market segments also include industrial iron and steel manufacturing, cement plants, iron and steel and natural gas processing.

This class will provide a high-level, non-technical overview of current US hydrogen consumption, the most widely used hydrogen production processes and existing facilities. It will explore several avenues to produce hydrogen and compare the costs of hydrogen produced from different processes. We will examine the characteristics of hydrogen and compare hydrogen with natural gas as a fuel in direct combustion applications. Finally, we will consider possible challenges and implications for natural gas midstream and downstream facilities and operations arising from blending or substituting hydrogen for methane in natural gas transport and delivery facilities.
