2006 Research Results

Pulsation Control Prototype Development
Champions: Michael A. Smith, Hoerbiger Engineering Services/Rainer Kurz, Solar Turbines Incorporated

The objective of this project is to advance the technical maturity of technologies to address both nozzle and lateral piping pulsation problems. The Tapered Nozzle, Infinite Length Nozzle and Tunable Side Branch Absorber prototypes are being evaluated.

Compressor Valve Research & Development
Champions: John Platt & Meron Wollie, BP

The objectives of this project are to (1) further advance two previously developed new key valve design concepts (semi-active plate valve and rotary passive valve) through their next development stage and (2) continue the improvement of the valve life analysis program. An industry partner is currently being sought to take this technology to industry.

Mounting Guidelines
Champions: George McKinney, Augusta Engineering & Design/Bill Elston, Compressor Systems, Inc./David Krenek, Caterpillar Inc.

The objective of this project is to prepare guidelines for the mounting of medium and high-speed separable compressors in pipeline service. It will include a basis for evaluating the choice to block mount a compressor as an alternative to skid mounting. The final draft of the Guidelines is being reviewed by the Committee and should be available to industry by year end. Co-funders for the project include Compressor Systems, Inc.; Caterpillar Inc.; Kinder Morgan, Inc.; Cameron Compression Systems and Ariel Corporation.

Gas Turbine & Driven Equipment Field Testing Guideline
Champion: John Platt, BP/Rainer Kurz, Solar Turbines Incorporated

The objective of this project, co-funded by BP, was to evaluate current test standards and determine shortcomings for field testing and to develop methods for overcoming impracticalities in field testing. An array of current practices have been merged into a general improved best practice guideline and is available to industry at no charge.
